The Beginnings of MindSwitch Education

In life, you can choose to be a wall or a window. When a wall receives a blessing, it stops the flow there. But when a  window receives a blessing, it allows it to flow through and reach other people. When I knew I had a true blessing going on at home, I wanted others to receive it as well.

Let’s go back a few months...

How It Started

March 2020 started off rough for everyone. COVID forced everyone around the world to lock themselves in their homes. We all experienced different struggles during this time. Some lost their loved ones, some were not able to reach home. Some however were fortunate enough to have it all, but could not see it.

I was home when the lockdown was enforced. My husband had decided only three days earlier not to go on a scheduled trip. My child’s school went remote overnight. The fear of getting sick felt like walls closing in on us.

I knew that I had to do something. My child’s emotional and psychological well-being depended on the home climate. I had to keep this climate cool and positive in the midst of the fire outside.

My First “MindSwitch”

Two weeks into the lockdown, I had my first “Mind Switch”. I could make this situation a pleasantly memorable one for my family or I could drag them into my fear and live the quarantine with the worst memories as a family.

A  Lemons Into Lemonade Situation

I pulled out my teaching supplies box that had been sitting in the closet for over 10 years. The box contained all the resources I once used to spark learning in my students.

This was my opportunity to teach my children what I had learned at The Eliot Pearson School of Child Development (TUFTS University). I could live out my dream of facilitating a classroom for my kids to guide them to learn through arts, play, exploration, and fill their days with “aha” moments.

The visible transformation started with emptying the guest room to turn it into a classroom. Little did I know this was going to be more than a classroom. Purpose started painting our days with experiments, works of arts, and bilingual conversations. My house slowly started turning into a museum, a science lab, and an art studio.

As blessings filled our days with joy, I wanted others to have this same feeling over their experiences in quarantine, and this was how MindSwitch Education was born.

“The MindSwitch” Mission

My mission is to provide solutions for parents, educators, and students to thrive. Transformation starts with your mindset. This is why I value growth through learning. But growth and transformation cannot be achieved without some discomfort; without *switching* into something different or new.

Magic happens when you realize you can make *switches* to how you do things to become the best version you can be. Becoming the best version you can be as a parent, educator, and student is a great gift for yourself, for those around you, and for society.

My goal is to create the right conditions that spark growth so parents become mentors, teachers become guides, and students become leaders.

Welcome home. It’s good to have you here.
